School Facts

Concord Elementary School is one of six elementary schools within the nationally recognized public school district of Edina, Minnesota. In addition, the state of Minnesota has recognized Concord as a five star school.

Concord combines experience with vision to create an exciting environment for its K-5 students. Our staff is united in their commitment to the goals and beliefs outlined in our mission statement to help each child to succeed.

Concord students exemplify Edina’s standards of excellence. Whether sharing discoveries in the classroom, pursuing learning on-line, or developing friendships on the playground, they are constantly learning and growing while enjoying school!

Site Council

Mission

The mission of the Council is to provide a shared decision-making process and communication which fosters a high quality of education for our children and a positive, supportive and responsive educational environment at Concord Elementary for students, staff and parents. The Site Council:

  • Supports the mission of Concord by providing goal and policy direction for the school
  • Provides a forum for discussion of school-related issues
  • Serves as the primary communicaiton link between the school and the community, district and school board.
  • Decides how the school responsibilities outlined by the District shall be allocated
  • Establishes procedures for selecting parent representatives for District committees and task forces.

Membership

Thirteen people serve on the Council: the principal, the PTO Vice President, five Concord staff members, a Kid's Club staff member, and five parent representatives. Member phone numbers are listed in the school directory.

Appointments to the Site Council are made each spring. Potential candidates may nominate themselves using the form below. Members need to be parents of a Concord student (or a staff member), be available to attend meetings, and actively participate in Site Council activities.

Meetings

The Site Council meets at 7:00 am on the second Tuesday of each month of the school year. Changes in time or location are included with the meeting highlights published in the Concord Crier. Visitors are welcome to attend meetings and, if they desire, may speak briefly at a designated time. The meetings are open to all Concord School community members and interested citizens.

Committees

Committees are formed to serve a variety of purposes. Most committees are formed to study an issue and make recommendations to the School Site Council for its consideration and possible action. Some examples are: technology, food service, parking lot safety, and student security.

How to Get Involved

You can get involved by:

1. Contacting a member of the Site Council when you have concerns, opinions or data you     would like to voice.

2. Attending Site Council meetings (you are always welcome).

3. Seeking election to the Site Council.

4. Participating in a Site Council committee.
