Absence Line

When your child is ill or will not be in school, please call the Absence Line at (952) 848-4302 and leave a message. If you do not call, the school office will call home to confirm your child’s absence from school. Please report the reason for your child’s absence. If a child has a communicable disease, the nurse’s office will inform the teacher so that a notice can be sent to the classmates’ homes.

Excused Absences During the School Day

For excused absences during the day, such as doctor or dental appointments, students are expected to bring a written note stating the times they are to be excused. Parents must sign-out and pick up children in the school office. Also, if a child is returning to school from an appointment, he or she must sign-in at the office.

Other Excused Absences

Absences due to illness, accident, family emergencies, funerals, religious holidays and conditions beyond the control of the parent or child are excused absences. Students are given two days for every day missed during an excused absence to make up work and are given full credit upon completion of the work. Homework can be requested. You will need to pick up the assignments at the school office or, upon request, work may be sent home with a sibling or friend.

Unexcused Absences

Absences for reasons other than those listed above may be listed as unexcused. Family vacations, although valuable, usually put a child behind academically and should be scheduled during the normal school breaks throughout the year.

Teachers will not be expected to prepare assignments ahead of time for family vacations. The student must assume responsibility for obtaining the missed assignments from the teacher after the absence and upon returning to class. Credit will be given for made-up work, including tests and written assignments, upon completion in the designated time frame.

Late Arrival

If your child arrives at school after classes have begun, he or she must report to the office with a written excuse to obtain a Late Arrival Admission Slip. The school attendance record will be changed to indicate that the student is not absent.
