About the Library Media Center
The goal of the Countryside Media Center Program is to instill a love of reading and a life-long commitment to reading and learning.
Our K-2 classes come weekly for story time and checkout. Our 3-5 classes come weekly for checkout.
All of our students have the advantage of using the computer labs and are taught the Edina's Literacy Information Skills in conjunction with the curriculum. |

Library Books
All grades, except for kindergarten, can check out up to 3 books and also a magazine at a time. Additionally, as needed for class projects, students may also have a 4th book checked out.
Kindergarten checks out two books each visit. Students need to bring books each visit to renew or to return. Once a library book becomes overdue, students are not allowed to check out additional materials until the overdue item is returned. An overdue notice is given when a child has overdue materials. If a child feels s/he has received an overdue notice in error, s/he should check with the library staff who will investigate further. If you would like to see what your son or daughter has checked out, or if they have any overdue books, follow these simple steps:
To search the catalog, double check which items your son or daughter has checked out, or to check to see if they have any overdue books:
From Internet Explorer: Open the Countryside Media Center page and enter as a student/parent.
Choose Destiny Online Catalog from home.
- Click on the Login button in the upper right hand corner. Use your student's Countryside computer login and password (feel free to contact Ms. Mestler or your child's classroom teacher for this.)
- Click on the My Info tab to see what books you have checked out and when they are due.
- Overdue books will be shown in red.
- Items can be placed on hold by clicking on the title of the book and then clicking the Hold It! button and save. When the book becomes available, it will be given to your child.
Taking Care of Books
At the beginning of each year, students are taught how to properly care for library books. Guidelines discussed include:
1. Having a special place at home just for library books.
2. Not eating or drinking while reading.
3. Having clean hands when using library books.
4. Keeping books out of reach of younger children and pets.
5. Being gentle with the books.
6. Using a bookmark or piece of paper to mark your spot instead of "dog-earing the pages".
7. Making sure water bottles are placed in an outside pocket of the backpack. |
