Board Meeting Minutes
General Information
For school year 2008-2009, the GCF will sponsor the following global awareness programs and services for Creek Valley students:
- "Pennies for Peace", a joint effort with the 5th grade Student Service Council and Valley View Middle School to raise funds to build a school in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Thus far, the schools have raised $3,427.92 towards their goal of $50,000 to build a school. This is a program created by the Central Asia Institute.
- Creek Valley's second International Festival on October 24th! The festival included a Young Audiences art exhibit featuring Latin American masks from the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. The public was invited to enjoy tours given by 4th and 5th grade student docents who participated in the Young Audiences docent training program. This year, the program was supported in part by a grant from the Target Foundation. The festival also featured 20 country tables hosted by Creek Valley families, an accordion player, folk dancing lessons, Scandinavian and Indian dance performances, as well as button making, chess games, henna tattoos, and origami creature making.
- Continued support of a multicultural 5th grade book club. Books are donated to the school for future book club use.
- The annual Creek Valley Chinese New Year parade (this year in January 2009).
- GCF is sponsoring the Kids Against Hunger program in March 2009. Students will assemble food packets to be sent around the world to help address the Global Food Crisis. Students will be encouraged to participate in service projects at home to help support the program.
- GCF will help facilitate an Irish step dancing performance at Creek Valley in March 2009.
GCF Members
The Creek Valley PTA has entrusted direction of this fund to a fund board consisting of the following twelve members:

- Creek Valley Teachers: JoAnn Blatchley, Alexander Converse, Jolynn Gamble, Pam Hermanson, Leah Naig, Jim Strom, Peter Wuest
- Current or Past Creek Valley parents: Heather Branigin, Mallika Iyer, Kathy Rendleman, Ross Robinson

2007-2008
In 2007-2008, the GCFl sponsored the following programs and services:
- "Pennies for Peace", a joint effort with the 5th grade
Student Service Council to raise funds for school supplies and building
schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This was a program created by the
Central Asia Institute.
- World Cultures Day, a one-day cultural classroom immersion program
presented by the Minnesota International Center to all Creek Valley
students in celebration of United Nations Day on October 24.
- A multicultural 5th grade book club. All books were purchased
for use by fifth graders participating in the program. Books were
donated to the school for future book club use.
- The annual Creek Valley Chinese New Year parade
- GCF supported the 'Happy 40th Birthday Creek Valley' Carnival by sponsoring an ad in the 40th Anniversary Commemorative Book 2008.
2006-2007
In 2006, the GCF sponsored the Chinese New Year parade
celebration for Creek Valley students in February. The fund paid for
special red gift envelopes and chocolates for each Creek Valley student.
In addition, the GCF sponsored two performances of the Japanese drumming
group, Mu Daiko, on March 17. Parents, students and teachers were invited
to attend.
In year 2006-2007, the CCF sponsored the first ever International
Festival at Creek Valley on January 26. The festival included a Young
