Math Olympiad

In the fall of each year, fourth and fifth graders at Creek Valley are tested and invited to participate in Math Olympiad. Cooperative problem solving strategies are practiced Wednesday mornings from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. From November to March, there are five individual competitions. At the end of the season, the entire team celebrates each student's progress in math skills.

Contact Sue Nelson, coach, if you have any questions.

The goals of Math Olympiad are:

  • develop enthusiasm for math problem solving
  • contribute to logical and spatial math development
  • provide the initial foundation for an intellectually stimulating and pleasurable mental activity.

Student Service Council (SSC)

SSC is a leadership opportunity for fifth graders. It is a service group designed to help others outside of the Creek Valley community. Students will brainstorm, implement, and manage various service projects throughout the year. Examples include coordinating the food drive and the Hat and Mitten Tree. Meetings will be held during recess on a regular basis. Fifth grade teachers Mr. Wuest and Ms. Cavanaugh facilitate Student Service Council.

Safety Patrol

Creek Valley's school safety patrol is a volunteer service organization for fourth and fifth graders. These 40 committed students are scheduled to patrol once a week before or after school.
