What Do I Need to Document?

So that readers of your paper, now or in the future, may easily check the facts for themselves, you work must be documented clearly, concisely, and accurately. You must indicate the sources of quotations, statements of fact which are not common knowledge, statements of opinion which are not your own, and all paraphrased material.

Follow the guidelines of the MLA format for papers written for English. Quick guidelines are on OWL, check Hacker pages 324-360 for further details. Check with your instructor for format expectations in other disciplines.

The Edina Public Schools Rights, Opportunities, and Responsibilities for Student Management handbook states the secondary school policy:

"Scholastic dishonesty which includes, but is not limited to, cheating on school assignments or tests, plagiarism or collusion is prohibited. Academic consequences may also be assigned."

First offence: disciplinary action assigned by the building administration
Second offence: 1-3 day suspension
Third offence: 3-day suspension (9)
