- For 2008 and 2009, U.S. News & World Report declared Edina High School a Silver Medalist School due to its high performance on state assessment tests and its college readiness score. This honor renders Edina HIgh School one of the top 2 percent in the nation.
- Edina High School named as one of the Best High School Athletic Programs in the Nation by Sports Illustrated. (registration required to view entire story)
- Edina High School has been selected to receive the 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement
- Edina High School was ranked 91st in the latest Newsweek poll of high schools in America! Edina had the highest ranking of any school in Minnesota.
- Edina High School recognized as a Grammy Signature School.
- EHS earned a School of Excellence Award in debate at the the National Forensic League Tournament.
- EHS identified as a five star school by the Minnesota Department of Education.
- The book clubs of EHS are featured in Reading for Themselves: How to Transform Adolescents into Lifelong Readers Through Out-of-Class Book Clubs. Deborah Appleman, professor of educational studies at Carleton College writes about the rationale of starting out of class book clubs as well as how to nurture them. (EHS is referred to as Morningside High.) The book clubs (in their 9th year and going strong!) are lead by Martha Cosgrove, Sara Swenson, Sarah Burgess and Tim Klobuchar.
Teachers and Staff
- Congratulations to Ms. Kathleen "KC" West for selection as a TIES Exceptional Teacher for 2010. Ms. West was selected by Superintendent Dr. Ric Dressen for pioneering the integration of a blended classroom while engaging students in learning.
- The Edina Chamber of Commerce has named Martha Cosgrove, a language arts teacher at the High School, the 2010 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Cosgrove learned she was the winner on the morning of May 26 when her family, colleagues and Chamber representatives surprised her in her classroom. The Chamber's Teacher of the Year award is presented annually to a teacher who exemplifies creativity, enthusiasm,
commitment and development of positive learning environment.
- Congratulations to Bob Schneider who has been nominated for 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Mr. Schneider, a mathematics teacher at Edina High School (EHS) has been with the high school for six years. Mr. Schneider teaches the innovative E-Math curriculum at EHS where selected students are allowed to progress at their own pace.
- Congratulations to Dr. W. Bruce Locklear for being awarded the 2010 Minnesota Secondary School Principal of the Year.
- Congratulations to Ms. Elizabeth Barniskis and Mr. Steve Sanger for attaining National Board of Teaching Certification.
- Congratulations to Mr. Jeff Krause for selection as a TIES Exceptional Teacher for 2007. Mr. Krause was selected by Superintendent Dr. Ric Dressen for the integration of technology in his classroom and engaging students in learning. This is the second year he has received the award; his first year was in 2004.
- Congratulations to Mr. Eric Burfeind for being presented with a 2007 "Think Globally, Teach Locally" award from The Center for Global Environmental Education (CGEE) at Hamline University. Mr. Burfeind was selected as a recipient of the award due to his work in the field and with students.
- Congratulations to Ms. Martha Cosgrove for being named the 2006 National Council Teachers of English (NCTE) Teacher of Excellence Award for the state of Minnesota. Ms. Cosgrove was selected by the Minnesota affiliate of NCTE, the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English (MCTE) High School Teacher of Excellence! This award is based on evidence of excellent classroom teaching of English at the secondary school level (grades 6-12). One person is selected annually for this honor from each state.
- Congratulations to Mr. William Webb for his selection as the “2004 School Music Educator of the Year” by the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies Organization (GTCYS). Mr. Webb was honored for his outstanding commitment to music education and over 25 years of dedicated involvement with GTCYS.
