Academic Support
Meet with Teachers
The first step for any student struggling in a class is to meet with the teacher. Many issues or misunderstandings can be cleared up with effective communication. Teachers at Edina High School expect to meet with students before or after school. Please contact your teacher to schedule a time to meet.
Meet with Counselor

After School Study Center
Teachers provide direct tutoring on a drop-in basis to students in the areas of math, science, social studies, and language arts in the media center.
Writer's Block
Edina High School’s writing center provides non-evaluative, individualized writing support through one-to-one consultations and is available to all students and staff engaged in the writing process. Students are encouraged to stop by the Writing Center to schedule an appointment. Drop-ins are also welcome.
We are located in Room 263, right around the corner from DeCafe. We are open everyday: 7:30 a.m.- 8:20 a.m. and all three lunches.

e-Math I and II
GRAD Test Preparation Sessions
These sessions are designed to prepare students to re-take the GRAD Reading or Math test and qualify for the state required remediation under the Minnesota GRAD rule.

Academic (Morning) Prep
Structured study hall which establishes a culture of learning by providing a quiet environment in which the expectation is clear that students will attend and work.
Academic Literacy Course
Academic literacy is a one semester course for students in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. The course seeks to develop skilled, passionate, habitual, and critical readers. Academic Literacy introduces students to processes, authors, genres, and concepts that are essential knowledge for smart readers.
Academic Literacy students will:
- Learn how to choose reading material based on interest
- Read daily--both in and out of class
- Develop and practice comprehension and vocabulary strategies through mini-lessons
- Study authors and genres to develop a broader understanding of literature
- Observe comprehension and critical-thinking strategies through teacher and student modeling
- Practice critical reading strategies essential for passing the GRAD reading test
High School 101
A single semester elective course for 10th graders focused on providing academic support in the areas of math, language arts, science, and social studies as well as providing organizational and study strategies.
High School 102
This is a single semester elective which is similar to a guided study hall. It is a course for 10th-12th grade students who need some adult support to experience success while in high school. Often it is for students that have been in 101 and still want support, or students that have been identified as needing extra help to reach their academic goals. Study time is given alongside support which can be academic, or emotional in nature.
STRIVE
For students below a 5.0 GPA who are ready to commit to improve. Includes a mentorship component and allows students to earn an elective Credit. Curriculum includes life skills, business basics, and college preparation. Students are admitted by application only.
Options
Independent Study Program (After School)
Credit recovery for students who are behind in completing credits required for graduation and who need to make up individual credits, but in an after-school independent-study format rather than during their 6-period school day. See your guidance counselor for more information.
School Within a School
Options is a state approved alternative learning program located within Edina High School. It is designed to provide students who qualify with a second chance at designing and pursuing a graduation plan. For more information and qualifications, please click on the link to the Options webpage.
Summer School
The Options program offers courses over the summer as well. These courses are generally designed for credit recovery. See the Options program for more information
504 Plans
504 Plans Covers individuals who meet the definition of qualified "handicapped" person - for example, a child who has or has had a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity* or is regarded as handicapped by others.
*Major life activities include: walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, caring for oneself, and performing manual tasks.
