Through adventure, we build young leaders who serve

SALT is a collaborative effort involving Edina Public Schools,
Volunteers of America SALT High School, Crosby-Ironton High School,
and other community organizations and individuals.

Using high adventure activities, we teach leadership through service to others.

By building relationships with young people from different backgrounds, as well as mentors and leaders from the school, community and business world, SALTeam members will positively impact their schools and communities, now and in the years to come.

“This is, after all, less a tale about the marvels of any single program
(there are others out there equally as good)
than it is about the power and possibility in a bunch of hard-pressed teenagers
living close to the ground in a quiet patch of outback,
held in the arms of a community of caring, slightly offbeat people,
many of whom themselves have struggled mightily to tell their own truths,
to unearth the promise of their own hard roads.
Furthermore, this program, for all its good, seems incredibly fragile.
Higher demand might well tempt those in charge to grow it too fast,
to speed up the line as if this were a business of widgets instead of relationships,
send the whole thing crashing to the ground.”
