The May Term Program is an opportunity for a senior student to either apply for an internship offered by the school, find their own internship or create, plan, and execute an educational project of his/her own design. Any qualified senior is eligible to apply. All attendance and graduation requirements must be met.
Students will be selected based on the quality of their application material. The May Term project must be a structured learning experience in an area that is acceptable and consistent with the purpose of the May Term Program’s objectives. The learning experience should reflect the students’ personality and interest. Successful projects typically embody several content areas and concepts that the students have learned throughout their time at EHS i.e math, language arts, history, art (see bubble map for ideas).
Information meetings and advisors are available to help construct a plan that will be accepted. However, it is up to the student to find and select their project unless you apply and are selected for an internship. Groups as well as individuals are encouraged to apply. In order for a senior to take part in this program they must meet all eligibility requirements and must agree to work within the guidelines of the May Term Program contained in the links below.
The May Term Project Provides Opportunities for:
- Hands-on learning outside the boundaries of traditional school.
- Career sampling through internships (businesses, laboratories, pursuit of artistic expression or cultural study, opportunities to contribute meaningfully to your community)
- Expanding your understanding of the world beyond Edina High School.
- A change of pace at the end of your senior year preparing you for life beyond high school.
