FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina Elementary School receives Promising Practices Award Edina, Minn., May 20, 2010 – Creek Valley Elementary School was awarded a Promising Practices Award from the Minnesota Schools of Character recognition program on Thursday, May 20th at the State Capitol. The award recognizes schools in Minnesota that have developed and implemented a specific and unique practice that promotes character development in their schools. Creek Valley received the award in recognition of their Pride Day Assemblies which are part of their ICCCAR ethical values program. The goal is to enable students to identify, demonstrate and live with these core ethical values, setting the stage for successful learners, adults, workers, parents, and contributing members of society. ICCCAR stands for Integrity, Courage, Commitment, Compassion, Appreciation of Diversity, and Responsibility and reminds Creek Valley students and staff of the phrase, “I care.” The assemblies are held once a month to celebrate and reinforce ethical values in behavior and to encourage serving the community. At each assembly a classroom of students introduces one of the ICCCAR values. “The whole school receives the same message and so it builds our strong community that lives out our mission—for students to be responsible, life-long learners,” said Kari Dahlquist, Creek Valley’s principal.
