FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina students exhibit strong growth in science Edina, Minn., July 17, 2009 – Students of Edina Public Schools breezed through the recently beefed up Minnesota Science Assessment. All grade levels tested showed strong growth on the assessment. Furthermore, the percentage of Edina students who scored in the proficient range was about one and a half times greater than the corresponding number for the state. The Minnesota Science Assessment is administered three times – in fifth-grade, eighth-grade and in high school after the completion of biology. In a year’s time, Edina high-school students judged to be proficient showed the biggest growth, going from 64.1 percent to 68.2 percent. The proficiency percentage of fifth-graders went from 60 percent to 63.6 percent. Eighth-grade students showed similar improvement, going from 60.1 percent to 63.9 percent.
