FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Edina Public Schools hires Nash as new director of business services Edina, Minn., May 18, 2010 – Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce its recommendation to hire Margo Nash as the District’s director of business services. The School Board took action on this recommendation at the May 17 School Board meeting. Nash has over 25 years of experience in the financial management of school districts. She comes to Edina from Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools, where she served as the director of business affairs for the past five years. During her time with Prior Lake, Nash was involved in a variety of leadership tasks from developing and implementing strategies that involved the public in the district’s budget process to ensuring a more stable financial outlook by reducing $3.8 million over a four-year span. But no matter what the task, Nash believes that good communication is the prerequisite to success. “Whether the director of businesses services is working with a teacher who has $100 budget or with the entire community of tax payers, the ability to communicate to customers that vary in their understanding of school district finances is extremely important,” said Nash in her application letter. “It takes the school board, community and staff working together to keep the district moving in a positive financial direction.” Highlights from her time at Prior Lake include being nominated for the 2009-2010 Leadership Award and achieving the Certificate of Excellence in school district accounting from International ASBO and the School Finance Award from the Minnesota Department of Education. “Margo Nash is recognized as one of the top school business directors in the metro and I am pleased to have her joining the Edina team,” said Ric Dressen, superintendent of Edina Public Schools. “Her extensive school finance experience and strong problem solving skills will serve our community well.” Prior to her current position, Nash worked at Faribault Public Schools (1998-2005) as a business manager and at Owatonna Public Schools (1996-1998) as a controller and a budgeting and accounting coordinator (1984-1996). Nash holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and a minor in accounting from Minnesota State University Mankato. She is also a Registered School Business Official with the Association of School Business Officials and a Certified School Business Official with the Minnesota Association of School Business Officials. Nash will begin her employment with Edina Public Schools Nov. 15, 2010. She will succeed, Jay Willemssen, the current director of business services who will retire Nov. 30, 2010.
