FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Edina Public Schools to discuss 2010-11 budget at community meeting
Meeting scheduled for April 8 at 7 p.m.

Edina, Minn., March 18, 2010 – Edina Public Schools (EPS) will host a community meeting on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Edina Community Center auditorium. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss planning efforts and budget challenges facing the 2010-11 school year.

If the District is held harmless by the 2010 Minnesota legislative session, EPS projects that planned expenditures will exceed the planned revenues by approximately $770,000
-- 1.5% of the general fund (k-12) budget.

The shortfall would increase if the legislative session decreases the amount of available revenue to school districts throughout the state. EPS and its School Board are studying various options that meet educational priorities in a fiscally responsible way. This information will be shared at the meeting. Input from the community will also be sought.
