FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Concord Family Service Night lets families give back Edina, Minn., Nov. 5, 2009 – The Concord Elementary PTO, Concord Cares Club and the local nonprofit Doing Good Together are working to create a culture of service, social action and charitable giving in our community by sponsoring the third annual Concord Family Service Night, an opportunity for families to work on projects that support the local community. The event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria and multi-purpose room. The school is located at 5900 Concord Ave. S. in Edina. The event is free, and attending families will work on projects such as making breakfast bags for families of ill children, greeting cards for chronically ill children, bandanas for pets at the Humane Society, fleece blankets for Project Linus and more. On the night of the event, the groups will collect personal care items for the homeless such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and deodorant. Participants can also donate two pieces of 1-1/2 yards of fleece for the blankets and bring labeled fabric scissors to share. Last year 95 Concord families and 275 total people participated in the event. “Families today are busy, even something as worthwhile as community service can be hard to squeeze in,” said Sarah Pflaster, chair of the event. “We hope this provides an easy, fun, and meaningful opportunity to do good together as a family and a school community.” For more information or if you would like to volunteer, please contact Kellie Sorenson at 952-926-8874 or gksorenson@comcast.net, Sarah Griffin Plfaster at 952-928-8992 or pflaster5@msn.com, Lisa Stanley at 952-926-4699 or lisastanley5@gmail.com or Katie Peterson at katie.peterson@comcast.net.
