Edina Public Schools selects Buettner as new technology director

Edina, Minn., Dec. 07, 2009 – Edina Public Schools (EPS) is pleased to announce its recommendation to hire Steven Buettner as the director of media and technology. The School Board took action on this recommendation at the Dec. 7 School Board meeting. Buettner will replace the current director Dr. Mike Burke, who is retiring at the end of December.

Buettner brings a range of experience and expertise to EPS. He has more than 10 years of experience working as a technology leader at other districts. Most recently, he served as the coordinator of technical support services at Osseo Area Schools. Prior to Osseo, Buettner served as a technology services manager for eight years at St. Paul Public Schools.

Buettner has also worked as a technology director at the American School of Madrid and as an integration technology specialist at Bloomington Public Schools. He has a significant amount of experience working with TIES, a technology consortium of which EPS is a member. He also maintains his own consulting company, is an Emmy winner, and holds two Guinness Book of Records titles.

“Steve Buettner’s strong leadership talents blended with his extensive experience in the world of technology makes him a great asset to our District’s team,” said Superintendent Ric Dressen. “I am confident our successes with media and technology services will continue to flourish under his direction and guidance.”

Buettner holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas in Spanish and Economics. He received a master’s degree from Mankato State University in educational leadership and a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota in curriculum and instruction.

“Technology can be one of the tools that helps foster a culture where all students are encouraged to do their best. Through this drive for excellence, we build a better society not just for our students but for the whole community,” said Buettner in his application letter.

Buettner will begin his employment in January of 2010.
