FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE National Hispanic Recognition Program Spotlights Four Edina High Seniors Edina, Minn., Dec. 04, 2008 – Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce that the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) has identified four Edina High seniors as outstanding Hispanic/Latino high-school students. Melina Helgeson, Elizabeth Llanes, Amanda Stefanik and Cole Stephan are among the 5,000 students nationwide to receive the honor. The selection is taken from a pool of more than 200,000 students. The NHRP students were recognized at a special reception for National Merit Semifinalists and Commended students. To receive the recognition, students must be at least a quarter Hispanic/Latino, earn a qualifying score on their PSAT/NMSQT exam and achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Although there is no financial reward, the recognition is considered academically prestigious. The NHRP shares its list of recognized students to subscribing colleges and universities.
