Literal Epidemic Hits
South View Media Center!!!!

On Wednesday, March 21 st , the South View Media Center kicked off a new literacy program designed to heighten middle school students' interest in reading.  Dubbed a "Literal Epidemic", this initiative encourages a culture of reading for pleasure among all students and addresses the literacy needs of both accomplished and emerging readers. Qualifying students new to our District will have the opportunity to visit the "Welcome Center" and receive a book bag and monthly coupons for free, hand-selected books and/or audio books. This will help make positive school-based connections as well as encourage a love of reading.
On the 21st, the Media Center was transformed into a "coffee house" for the entire school day.  Students were invited to come, relax and read. Snacks and beverages added to the allure of the event. Students were introduced to "Book Boxes"; packages of genre-specific books that can be purchased and are designed to maintain interest in this program and add high interest books to home libraries.  Proceeds from the sale of "Boxes" will be used to sustain the program in the future.
