Mission Statement for South View Middle School
The mission of South View Middle School, working in partnership with the family and community, is to develop in each student the knowledge, self-worth, and life skills necessary to be lifelong learners and responsible citizens by providing relevant curricula; dedicated qualified staff; and a safe, caring, innovative, and student-centered learning environment.
Qualified Staff
South View teachers enjoy teaching in a middle school and are well-prepared to teach students at this age level. Over 65% hold advanced degrees. South View staff members regulary present at national conferences on topics such as block scheduling, technology innovations and effective instructional practices.
Goals and Objectives
- All students will demonstrate improved academic achievement.
- All students will demonstrate positive self-worth and a perception that they are maturing in a safe, caring environment.
- All students will demonstrate ethical behavior and responsible citizenship.
- All students will demonstrate application of their knowledge and the use of resources.
Community Service
Each student at South View is expected to give back to the community through service work, whether it is through a special class, or in the annual Food Drive in which all students participate.
Retreats
The retreats are a way for students to learn outside the classrooms. Each grade level goes on a retreat off campus to promote teamwork and cooperation. It is a great place to get aquainted with your new team members each year, to learn and have fun.
Site Council
Parent representatives also serve on the South View Site Council, a decision-making body comprised of administrators, faculty/staff, students, and parents. The Site Council helps define all-school goals and direct efforts to achieve these goals.
Parent Council
The South View Parent Council works to support and enhance the educational programs at South View and to strengthen the relationship between home and school. Parent volunteers help with student enrichment and extracurricular activities, communications, special events, support services and grade level activities.
