Second
graders are active, sensitive, emotional youngsters who are interested
in almost everything of the present time and of the immediate environment.
They have a well-developed competitive spirit and show an increased
interest in team and group activities. Though they are active and
love dramatic play, they are turning into good listeners, with lenthening
periods of calmness and concentration. As they become more self-absorbed,
they begin to worry about failure and prefer not to be singled out
in the classroom.During this year of expanding awareness and independence,
second graders need to experience a lot of approval in a safe and
accepting environment.
