Mission
The mission of French Language Arts education in the Edina Public
Schools is to provide students with the linguistic and cultural
tools necessary to maintain and continue developing proficiency
in French by engaging in rigorous, relevant curricula so that students
understand francophone cultures and communicate successfully on
a wide range of topics with native and non-native French speakers.
Beliefs
We believe that in the middle school:
- students continue to develop and refine their proficiency in
French
- exposure to other cultures and languages broadens students'
perspective within our pluralistic society
- solid understanding of cultural diversity lends itself to flexibility
in professional lives
- advanced language proficiency is reached through the uninterrupted
study of content in French
In addition, the French Language Arts curriculum reflects the National
Standards for Foreign Language Learning, which address the five
areas of Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and
Communities.
