Mission

The mission of Health education in the Edina Public Schools is to empower each student to make healthy lifelong decisions that influence self, family, and community by creating opportunities to learn about current, global, community, and personal health issues in a positive and supportive environment.

Beliefs

We believe that:

  • Health is the essence of a person’s existence
  • Learning is a lifelong process
  • Education and learning are shared responsibilities among students, family, school, community, and society-at-large
  • Individuals are accountable for their decisions and actions
  • Respect of diversity and individuality is important
  • A positive and supportive environment is essential to the educational process
  • Physical, mental, and social well being of people are essential for a healthy school community
  • Learning is internalized when it is interactive, meaningful, and related to the life experiences of the learner
  • Valuing one’s health is essential for healthy decision-making
