Instructional Coaches
The Edina Alt Comp Plan uses Cognitive Coaching to support teachers’ professional growth goals. Cognitive Coaching encourages focused reflection to enhance teacher performance. Instructional Coaches facilitate this reflective professional growth.
Through one-on one conversations, instructional coaches listen and assist teachers in “navigating the territory” of his/her thinking. At the heart of this conversation is the concept that within us we all have the resources that enable us to grow and change. The person being coached, not the coach, evaluates what is effective or ineffective about his/her work and generates new approaches to their teaching. Conversations are non-judgmental, self-directed, and confidential.
